New Test Announcement - Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Effective Date: July 12, 2010
LabDx is pleased to introduce in-house testing for both Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae using Becton Dickinson’s ProbeTec. The ProbeTec System is the first real-time DNA amplification assay for the detection of both Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC). The BD ProbeTec Assay for CT and GC can be performed on asymptomatic or symptomatic male and female patients using a simple urine specimen or from endocervical swabs and male urethral swabs. The ProbeTec urine preservative transport (UPT) and the diluents provided with the cervical swab transport kit provide efficient transport of samples and maintain excellent viability of the specimen.
These tests can be ordered individually, or in combination:
| LabDx Order Code | CPT Codes* | Analyte |
|---|---|---|
| CT | 87491 | C. trachomatis DNA, (SDA) |
| GC | 87591 | N. gonorrhoeae DNA, (SDA) |
| CTGC | 87491 & 87591 | C. trachomatis/N. gonorrhoeae DNA, (SDA) |
Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC) are the most common sexually transmitted bacterial diseases in the United States. Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection with an estimated 2,291,000 cases in the United States in 2008. Although the symptoms of both gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia are often mild or absent, both can severely damage a woman’s reproductive system and lead to pelvic inflammatory disease and subsequent infertility. Additionally, both Chlamydia and gonorrhoeae can also be passed from an infected mother to her baby during vaginal childbirth.
Specimen collection kits and urine collection containers can be obtained from our Client Supply Department.
At this time, we are unable to test for these analytes from liquid based PAP collection containers.
